The atmosphere was light but lively at the press conference ahead of the showdown in the University of Ghana corporate football league, as teams preparing for both the third-place match and the grand finale exchanged a healthy dose of banter.
Set to face off in the third-place game, a representative from the National Petroleum Authority expressed confidence in his side’s abilities.
“Everyone can testify that we express ourselves on the pitch with tiki-taka tactics. The Armed Forces team should be aware that they arrived with fuel, and without it, they cannot proceed. We dealt with spirits and survived, so you should expect us to be successful against humans,” he said.
These comments drew a quick response from the captain of the Armed Forces Officers Sports Club team.
“We barely remember the third person on the moon, but we do remember the first, so it is quite unfortunate we won’t be playing in the final. But I want NPA to know we wouldn’t only beat them literally but figuratively too,” he claimed.
Things did not cool down when it came to the final game either. Union Ghana and Ghana Civil Aviation Authority are both set to fight for the trophy. Union Ghana’s team captain started with a chant that drew a response from those present in the conference room.
“Even our opponents enjoy our chants. We would be adding this trophy to the ones already in our cabinet,” he said.
“Union Ghana, better buckle up; this flight is headed straight to the trophy cabinet,” Civil Aviation responded.
Though the banter drew laughs, the underlying message was clear: all the teams are fired up.
The competition has already captured interest and put it in a new light, blending competition with intensity and entertainment to encourage networking.
The finals of the University of Ghana Corporate football league is set to take place on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium, with Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and Union Ghana to fight for the coveted trophy.
The third and fourth place match will be between the National Petroleum Authority and the Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club.
