The University of Ghana’s Pro Vice-Chancellor (ASA), Prof. Gordon Awandare has emphasized the commitment of the University to gender equality and inclusivity as it strives for a balanced representation across all levels.
Speaking at the Cedi Conference Centre (CCC) during the August 2024 Congregation Ceremony, for graduate students, and undergraduate students of the Medical School and the School of Law of the University of Ghana, the Pro Vice-Chancellor addressed the university’s achievements over the past year in promoting gender equality, emphasising the substantial increase in female student enrollment.
“Our student enrolment statistics for the 2023-2024 academic year reflect a dynamic and evolving profile of our student body. A total of 18,710 new students were enrolled this academic year. And notably, there has been a sustained increase in our overall female student enrolment, which currently stands at 50.3%. I thought we would applaud that.”
He continued to stress on the dedication of the university to promote gender equality and inclusivity across all levels.
“Our commitment to gender equality and inclusivity is evident, and we will continue to strive for balanced representation across all levels. This not only enhances the diversity of our student body, but also enriches the learning experience for all our students”
He also reinstated that the strategic reduction of admissions to some undergraduate programs for the 2023/2024 academic year was aimed at maintaining academic quality.
“Our admissions processes for 2023-2024 academic year saw a strategic reduction in student numbers to certain programmed at the undergraduate levels in order to maintain the quality of teaching and learning and ultimately enhance research.”
