The Akuafo Hall Traditional Council at the University of Ghana celebrated its 36th Adinkra Durbar in grand style on Saturday, July 27, 2024. The event, themed “Digital Heritage: Digitizing Our Cultural Wealth,” saw the launch of the Nyansakukuo website, a platform dedicated to preserving and promoting Ghanaian heritage and culture.
The durbar, which marked the climax of a week-long celebration took place at the Akuafo Hall Quadrangle, and was attended by a record number of guests, including presidential candidate Dr. Alhassan Ayariga, National Best Farmer 2022/2023 Nana Yaw Sarpong Sereboe, and the Hall Master and tutors of Akuafo Hall.

The event was presided over by Osomanyawa Nana Kwesi Opare and featured the enstoolment of a new king and queen mother, symbolizing the continuation of the traditional council from one leadership to the next.

The launch of the Nyansakukuo website marked a milestone in the council’s efforts to digitize Ghanaian cultural heritage. Nana Yaw Sarpong Sereboe, who spearheaded the launch, stated that the website will serve as a repository of information on Ghanaian culture, tradition, and history, making it accessible to a wider audience.
“With the launch of the Nyansakukuo website, we are unlocking the treasures of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, making it accessible to all, and ensuring that our traditions, history, and values are preserved for generations to come,” he said.

As the hall council ushered in a new era of leadership, the outgoing Chief Farmer, Kwame Asare Isaac with the stool name Nyansakuku Kwaw Dade I, and Queen Mother, Espenssandra Nani Marquaye with the stool name Obaahemaa Sakyi Abea I, expressed their optimism and confidence in the incoming team’s ability to continue the council’s mission of promoting and preserving Ghanaian heritage and culture among students.
“I am confident that the new Chief Farmer and Queen Mother will build upon the foundation we have laid, and take the Akuafo Hall Traditional Council to even greater heights,” the past chief farmer said.

“I am happy to pass the crown to the new Queen Mother, who shares my vision of preserving and promoting Ghanaian culture and traditions. The two are replaced by Ofori Bosomtwe Bernard with the stool name Nyansakuku Kwaku Twum I and Wilhemina Yayra Amanu Maafia with the stool name Obaahemaa Sakyi Abea II respectively.
