Black Princesses of Ghana Goalkeeper Afi Amenyeku has expressed confidence in the team as they hope to qualify from the group stages of the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup in Columbia.

Austria’s U-20 women’s team defeated Ghana’s Black Princesses 2-1 in their first match at Estadio Metropolitano de Techo, Bogota marking a dream start to their maiden campaign.

Speaking after the game, the Ghanaian goalkeeper said it’s not the end of the road.

“As a goalkeeper, I would say football is a game of chance. When the opponent gets their chance and utilizes it, that goal is something we could have avoided, but that’s football,” Amenyeku stated after the game.

“Yes, as a team, I think I’m okay. I’m impressed with how I saw my colleagues. We were all determined to win, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get it.

“However, this is not the end of the road. We still have two matches to go, so we are looking forward to that.”

The Black Princesses have been involved in seven opening fixtures at the U-20 women’s World Cup, with the team winning just once (2014).
Ghana will face Asian giants and 2018 champions, Japan, on Thursday, 5 September 2024, before they conclude the group stage action with a tricky test against New Zealand on Sunday.
