National tennis teams step up preparations for upcoming international competitions

The President of the Ghana Tennis Federation, Isaac Duah, has revealed that both the Men and Women’s National Tennis Teams are currently preparing for international assignments in Rwanda and Kenya respectively.

In an interview with Univers Sports, Mr. Duah disclosed that the Women’s National Team, The Golden Rackets, will travel to Kenya in June to partake in the Billie Jean King Cup. Owing to this, he revealed that they are expected to commence training as early as May.

“In June the female national team, The Golden Rackets, will travel to Nairobi, Kenya to take part in the Bellie Jane King Cup. They will be starting their training this month on the clay court at the Ghana Tennis Club. They will have one month of training to get them prepared for this year’s edition of the Billie Jane King Cup in Nairobi. Most of the players are local based with the exception of one who is currently based in the United Kingdom. The Head Coach of the side Aryee Dartey has named a provisional contingent of about 6 players for the tournament” he told Univers Sports.

He further divulged the Federation’s plans for the Men’s Team who are expected to make a trip to Kigali, Rwanda to participate in the Davis Cup.

“In July, the male team will also leave for Kigali, Rwanda to play in the Davis Cup. The current head coach of the Golden Rackets, Fred Agyir, is yet to come out with his provisional list of players for the competition. Currently, most of these players are in the United States of America participating in Global Tours. We are looking to assemble the best among them to see how successfully we can represent Ghana,” he added.
