President of the Student Representative Council of the University of Professional Studies, Accra Majesty Kwesi Asare has revealed that the industrial action by the public tertiary unions has halted the admission of new students into the institution.
Speaking to Univers News campus exclusive, Majesty said the industrial action has forced the management of UPSA to extend the admission of level 200 Diploma students and level 300 diploma students aswell.
For upsa, if not for the strike were supposed to be on campus at this moment, even this month we were supposed to start admission for the level 200 top up, students I mean diploma students ,going to level 300 and all that
Unfortunately, for the strike we can have we can’t have it done or even we will do it, there has to be an extension.
He said that the strike has made students feel useless. He added that it has increased pressure on the university’s social amenities as well.
We are almost approaching 21 days of the strike and it is alarming and dangerous and affecting us greatly us students because you as a students you don’t know your way forward, you don’t know if you should study or not.
And in the long run, after they are back they will not extend the academic calender and put pressure on us and it is up for us to learn hard, put pressure on us and at the end of the day you don’t get the best out of students we are looking for at the end of the day.
And even our facilities, it’s putting pressure on the amenities so i will understand why a schools management would like close down schools after 21 days.
On what he’s been doing for student as the strike progresses, Majesty said his team has come up with tutorial sessions to help the students.
From SRC,I have seen the academic board committee, come up with the semester made easy, irrespective of the strike we do online session for students, now we are securing venues on campus where can have inperson for those around campus and tackle some of the difficult course we face, so that is what the SRC is doing for students.
He called on them to make use of the school’s library.
Let’s make good use of the library, this is the time we need to do all the work.
