The La Traditional Priest, Wulomo Nii Yemo Obroni has sternly warned the government against the sale of lands in La to certain individuals without proper consent from local allodial authorities.

Speaking during the ‘Hands off our hotels’ demonstration on 18th June 2024, Wulomo Nii Yemo Obroni accused the government of selling local lands intended for communal development to certain individuals in collaboration with the lands commission.

He sternly warned the government to cease such sales especially without the consent of local chief authority.

“Government in collaboration with the land commission, a useless commission, have been selling all our lands.”

“They are taking our property unlawfully without [our] consent’ so if I am a chief priest I have to fight for my rights… We need to tell the government that ant land belonging to Ga Dangbe, they should never dare, they should give our lands to us.”

The chief priest poured libation to invoke the gods of the land to deal with persons involved in the unlawful sale of local lands. He further expressed his distaste towards the behavior of the police service as they fired pepper spray on protestors.

“We came to protest the unlawful selling of our local lands to individuals; we came to petition the president to resolve the issue and the police has released pepper spray and tear gas on us there’s nothing we can say.”

“We came to find a resolution but met the unexpected, there’s nothing we would say, but we leave this matter to the gods of the land.”

This follows the intended sale of a 60% stake in 4 SSNIT hotels including the Labadi Beach Hotel to the Minister of Food and Agriculture and owner of Rock City Hotel, Bryan Acheampong, emerging a demonstration led by Member of Parliament for Tongo North, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
