SSA-UoG announces nationwide strike on September 16 over unresolved demands

The Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) has called for a nationwide strike starting on Monday, September 16, 2024, due to the government’s failure to meet their demands for improved working conditions. This move comes after numerous protests and unsuccessful negotiations.

In a statement released on September 13, the national chairman of the association, George Ansong criticized the government for not upholding previous agreements.

Key issues include the non-implementation of updated rates for Vehicle Maintenance and other allowances, the withholding of Tier Two deductions from Fund Managers since January 2024, and the lack of recalculation of interest on Tier Two pension funds for the period from 2010 to 2016.

The SSA-UoG has instructed all member campuses to adhere to the strike, citing the government’s inaction as the primary reason for their decision.
