Sports Minister lauds NBA Africa for promoting female basketball in Ghana

Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustafa Yusif has lauded NBA Africa for their commitment help the development of female Basketball in Ghana right from the basic level.

Speaking at the first-ever Junior NBA All Girls clinic organized by NBA Africa in Accra that aims to increase the involvement of young girls in basketball, the Minister explained that, the clinic will help highlight Ghana’s potential in Basketball and increase the participation of girls in the game as the focus has mainly been on the boys.

 

 

“It is indeed an honour and a good opportunity for our country to have been selected for this important international basketball clinic by NBA Africa. I am extremely delighted to be part of this programme, as it will highlight the potential Ghana has, especially in female basketball. The focus of Basketball development has been largely on the boys with the girls participating on the peripheral at various levels. To have such a big grass root clinic focusing on girls is a timely step by NBA Africa”

 

The clinic was the first-ever edition to be organized in Accra at the SSNIT Emporium and was graced with the presence of the First Gentleman of the United States, Douglas Emoff and the 2003 WNBA Champion and WNBA Legend Atsou Ndiaye-Diatta who recounted how basketball saved her life and encouraged the young girls present to follow their dreams.
