Ghana’s high jump sensation Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah has set her sights on putting up a jaw-dropping performance at the summer’s Olympic Games, after securing gold at the just-ended African Senior Athletics Championships in Doula with a 1.87m leap.

Rose Yeboah, who was able to defend her high jump crown at the African Games (on home soil) after winning gold at Rabat four year prior, has been earmarked as one of the standout track and field athletes in Ghana.

Being a trailblazer in Ghanaian women high jump in terms of Olympic qualification, Yeboah is backing herself to progress steadily through understudying her fellow athletes and subjecting herself to stern training regimes.

I have 90% confidence. There are a lot of big people, big athletes there that I can look up to them. I feel I can do better there, because I’ve been taking my training seriously these days, she said.

Being only the third Ghanaian and the first to compete at the Olympics since 1960, Rose is determined to hoist the flag of Ghana high as she aims to go places at the Olympics.

I think they should expect more from me, because I’m gonna make everybody happy. I mean, qualifying to Olympics is not even easy. And If I go and put up a great performance and make it to the finals, that one is even a great achievement, she added.

Rose Yeboah – eariler in June – punched her ticket to Paris in spectacular fashion, taking down numerous records after clearing a 1.97m height at the NCAA final, shattering the national record, Personal best, school record, meet record and Collegiate record, as she hopes to take the Olympics by storm.
