Winner of TV3’s Mentor XIII, Romeo Swag, has opened up about the fierce competition he faced during the reality show, highlighting AJ Tunes and Rey Cooper as his most formidable contenders.

Speaking in an interview on AT The DJ’s Mercy on Radio Univers 105.7FM on July 18, 2025, Romeo Swag told host Kvng Kelly that the two acts kept him on his toes from the very beginning of the competition.

“They were actually two — AJ Tunes and Rey Cooper. AJ had that choir-style voice, very strong vocals. And Rey Cooper had those fine, smooth vocals. They were both threats from the start,” he recalled.

According to the rap sensation, Rey Cooper initially took the lead in the competition, scooping multiple Star Performer titles in the early stages. Midway through the contest, AJ Tunes took over, intensifying the pressure for other contestants.

“Rey Cooper had the first momentum. Then by the middle of the show, AJ Tunes started winning. So, it was like both of them were dominating. I only started collecting some Star Performer wins later on,” Romeo Swag noted.

Despite the tough competition, Romeo Swag expressed gratitude for the challenge, admitting that the presence of such strong contenders pushed him to improve his craft.

“If you’re in a competition where everyone is laid-back, there’s no growth. The heat those two brought forced all of us to level up. You either match their energy or get left behind,” he said.

Romeo Swag emerged as the ultimate winner of Mentor XIII, and his journey has since inspired many upcoming artists with its mix of resilience, growth, and talent. With such reflections, it’s clear his success story was built not only on skill but also on the pressure that shaped him.
