Republic Bank, Ghana has donated 20 laptops to the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) to support its ‘Laptop Library’ project.

General Manager of Commercial and Retail Banking of the Republic Bank (Ghana), Joseph Laryea Ashong led a team to make the donation in response to the call on Corporate Ghana to support the project aimed at enhancing teaching and learning activities within the Institution.

Speaking at the donation ceremony, Joseph Laryea remarked that the government alone can’t shoulder the responsibility of tertiary education in the country, hence the bank’s decision to support UGBS in the best of its capacity. Addressing the institution’s management, he stated that would help foster the corporate relationship with the institution and promote quality academic work.

“This is something we can do now as leaders of this generation. In the same spirit, we received a request from you and we believe in the right direction that we should be able to start from somewhere. I mentioned in an earlier conversation that we wished we could do more than this but the department is aware of what is happening in the country, it has impacted financial institutions greatly.”

“So, this is our token, to support this institution with a few laptops to begin with. This goes into a pool, and from time to time, we will see how best we can add to what we are starting today, so on behalf of the Managing Director and the Bank, we are here to present these laptops to you to add to the stock you have to enhance teaching and learning and supporting the Nations agenda towards quality education”.

In response to the initiative, the Dean of UGBS, Prof. Justice Nyigmah Bawole expressed his gratitude to the Republic Bank for their support towards the Business School’s ‘Laptop Library project’.

“We recognize that the Government is not getting over its woes anytime soon, so we are reaching out to our partners and we are happy that Republic Bank has responded favorably to our call. I want to assure you on behalf of management that this support is extremely important and we will make good use of the resources you have given to us. 20 computers will create some breakthrough for young students, and you have created a big faith of relief for many young people.”

“I thank you very much because this is big; it is the first time we have received 20 laptops in a single donation and we are happy about this.”
