Promoting fitness and wellness: A recap of the freshers’ Sports and Wellness festival

The Sports and Wellness Directorate of the University of Ghana hosted a fitness and wellness program aimed at promoting physical activity and a balanced lifestyle among fresh students. It was held at the Handball court. The event featured a Fun Walk, aerobics, a boot camp, and insightful talks on sports nutrition.

The day began with a 6:00 AM Fun Walk, introducing freshers and athletes from Presbyterian Boys Senior High School (PRESEC) to the university’s sports facilities.

The Director of the Sports and Wellness Directorate addressed participants, encouraging them to balance academics with their sporting ambitions. Freshers were also introduced to gym instructors to guide their fitness journeys.

Participants then engaged in an aerobics session, followed by an intense boot camp workout designed to build strength and endurance. Afterward, they enjoyed a supplementary breakfast sponsored by Cowbell.

Keynote speaker Professor Richmond Ayitey delivered a compelling session on nutrition’s role in athletic performance, emphasizing balanced diets and hydration. The event concluded with an awards ceremony, recognizing students who showed exceptional enthusiasm and commitment.

The program successfully combined fitness, motivation, and education, reinforcing the university’s commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
