Exactly seventeen months after being fired by his previous team, Nottingham Forest, Chris Hughton has returned to full time management as the head coach of Ghana.
In a statement issued on Sunday February 13 2023, the GFA has appointed Chris Hughton as the new coach of the Black Stars.
During the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Former Republic of Ireland International worked as Otto Addo’s technical advisor.
Christopher William Gerard Hughton, born on Dec 11, 1958 in Stratford England holds a UEFA Pro Licence His preferred football formation is the 1-4-2-3-1.
Hughton has held managerial positions at various levels during his career, including serving under different managers at Tottenham, where he combined his managerial duties with being the Republic of Ireland’s assistant coach.
He was appointed as Newcastle United’s first-team coach by Kevin Keegan in 2008. By September that same year, he was made caretaker manager after Keegan left.
After Newcastle was demoted to the Championship, he was later named the club’s permanent manager, and under his tuttelage, they were able to return to the Premier League at the first try.
Hughton’s managerial career has been outstanding thus far, and he has since led Birmingham City, Norwich City, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Nottingham Forest. His greatest accomplishments was leading Newcastle to Premier League promotion, taking Birmingham City to the Europa League group stages and Norwich City to an 11th-place Premier League finish in the 2012/13 Premier League season.
Additionally, Hughton was the manager who guided Brighton to its first-ever Premier League promotion and helped the Seagulls get to the FA Cup semifinal.
Hughton was also the manager who led Brighton to gain Premier League promotion for the first time in the club’s history and reached the FA Cup semi-final with the Seagulls.
Nottingham Forest was the last club the 64-year-old managed, however he was fired in September 2021 following a poor start to the Championship season. Prior to his appointment, he was technical advisor to the black stars technical team. The former Northern Ireland defender replaces Otto Addo, who stepped down after a poor World Cup campaign in Qatar 2022 to focus on his job at Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
