The President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama has signed into law the bill which seeks to abolish the E-Levy, Emissions tax and Betting tax as part of measures by the government to alleviate the plight of Ghanaians.

The move comes on the back of the abolishment of the three taxes as a campaign promise of the National Democratic Congress during the electioneering period ahead of the December 7 polls which saw the party win by a landslide margin.

During the presentation of the 2025 Budget by the Minister of Finance some weeks ago, it was announced that the government was taking steps to abolish the aforementioned taxes in line with fulfilling promises made to Ghanaians by John Mahama during the campaign season.

The bill which has since been signed into law will go a long way to reduce the economic pressure on a large section of the population given the prevailing economic conditions in the country.

The most talked about taxes were the E-Levy charged on digital finance transactions as well as the Betting tax, which was levied on the winnings of mostly youth who patronise football prediction sites to gain cash rewards for their day to day living.
