Renowned evangelist and founder of the Worldwide Miracle Outreach, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, has underscored the importance of recognising the annual commemorative lecture held in honour of the late President John Evans Atta Mills as a national responsibility rather than a partisan initiative.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Radio Univers’ Eunice Atiah Ayimbota at the 2025 John Evans Atta Mills Heritage Lecture, on July 22 2025, Rev. Tetteh stressed that the legacy of the late president belongs to the entire nation and should not be confined to party lines.

“I’m a statesman, and I’m supposed to be for all Ghanaians,” he said. “It is only someone who is unwise and lacks understanding who will think that coming for this program is being partisan. I’m showing honour to someone who led Ghana. When he served as president, he served as president for Ghana and not for any political party.”

Rev. Tetteh emphasised that John Evans Atta Mills, who served as president from 2009 until his passing in 2012, should be remembered as a national figure whose contributions transcended political affiliation.

“This program should have been embraced by all—whether NDC, NPP, CPP, PPP or whatever—because John Atta Mills was Ghana’s president, not just the NDC’s president,” he asserted.

He further described his participation in the lecture, where he delivered the opening prayer, as a deeply humbling experience.

“It was a privilege to have even given the opening prayer,” he noted.

The John Evans Atta Mills Heritage Lecture is held annually to celebrate the values, leadership, and vision of the late president, who is widely remembered for his humility, integrity, and dedication to peace.

Rev. Tetteh’s call for national unity in commemorating Atta Mills’ legacy comes at a time when Ghana’s political landscape continues to wrestle with polarisation. His remarks serve as a reminder of the importance of honouring statesmen based on their service to the nation, irrespective of party lines.
