Police has invited musician Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, to assist ongoing investigation into the death of journalist, Ahmed-Hussein Suale.

The police invitation follows A-Plus’ recent claims on social media that he has some information regarding the case.

Ahmed-Hussein Suale, who worked with ace investigative journalist, Anas Amereyaw Anas, was shot multiple times by two unidentified men on motorbikes on January 16, 2019, while he was driving at Madina in Accra.

The issue, which became topical in the Ghanaian media and other international media outlets is still with the police.

However, A-Plus, in a recent live video on social media claimed to have information on Ahmed Suale’s death.

A statement issued by the police on Monday (15 July) said it is pleased that A Plus has information that could assist the ongoing investigation.

“The Ghana Police Service has today, 15th July 2024, invited Mr. Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as (A-Plus) to assist Police ongoing investigation into the death of Ahmed Suale, following his recent claims on social media that he has some information regarding the case.

“The Cold Case Unit established in October 2021, under the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to handle cases of this nature has been working on the investigation into the case and closely engaging with the deceased’s family.”

“The Police is therefore pleased that Mr. Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus) has made indication that he has some information that could assist the ongoing investigation, and he has been invited accordingly,” the police statement said.

Ahmed Suale was shot dead in Accra, Ghana’s capital, on 16 January, 2019, in an apparent contract killing.

He worked as a reporter for Tiger Eye P.I., an investigative outlet led by well-known journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas which is known for undertaking undercover investigations to expose wrongdoing.

At the time, Suale was the lead investigator behind a Tiger Eye exposé on corruption in Ghanaian football published in June 2018 ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

Suale’s murder is believed to have been connected to his investigative journalism.

Since then, local rights groups have been raising concerns about the government’s commitment to solving the case, after political leaders, among them the current president, cast doubt on links between the killing and Suale’s work.
