Ghana’s men’s 4x100m quartet placed second behind team Jamaica at the Pennsylvania relays on Saturday, running in a time of 39.71s.
The quartet made up of Joseph Manu, Joseph Paul Amoah, Ibrahim Fuseini, and Barnabas Aggerh, participated in the meet with the aim of securing an Olympic spot for Ghana in the relay event.
However, the time produced by the 4 athletes fell short of the time run by Ghana’s quartet at the African Games(38.43s), leaving the country’s Olympic hopes hanging in the balance for the time being.
Ghana finished behind Jamaica, who ran in a time of 39.58s, to clinch first position in the Pennsylvania relays.
Albeit slower than the African Games time, team Ghana ranks as the 3rd best nation in the men’s World relays ranking list this season, only behind the USA (37.67s) and Nigeria (38.41s).
The team could leverage on the African Games silver medal finish to ultimately snuff an Olympic spot, or may have to be at their uttermost best to make the final when they do take to the track in the World Relay championship in the Bahamas.
Ghana’s participation in the finals of the relay event in the Bahamas World championship, guarantees a direct entry to the Olympic Games without relying on a ranking finish.
