The Ghanaian Students’ Association in Hungary (GASH) has urgently appealed to government to promptly release overdue funds owed to Ghanaian students studying in the European country.
In a press statement, the students expressed profound disappointment and frustration over the government’s failure to pay student stipends on time, further citing the challenges they face from the neglect.
“Shockingly, for a period of nine months and counting, the government of Ghana has failed to fulfill its obligations, leaving us, the students, in an extremely precarious situation. This negligence has had a detrimental impact on our studies, causing significant distress and hindering our academic progress. We urge the government to take immediate action to rectify this situation.”
GASH called on the government to expedite the payment of student stipends within the next week, threatening to organize demonstrations at various Ghanaian embassies and consulates in Central Europe if the funds are not released promptly.
“We are therefore calling on the government to expedite the payment of our stipends within the next one week. Failure to do so will result in a demonstration at the various Embassies and Honorary consulates within Central Europe, a situation that could be avoided with swift action.”
The association expressed its resolve to fight for the rights and well-being of Ghanaian students in Hungary, urging the government to swiftly address the matter to prevent further harm.
GASH also called on stakeholders including the media and general public to lend their support and amplify their voices as their deeply disappointed in the government of Ghana.
“We urgently call upon all stakeholders, including the media and the general public, to lend their support and amplify our voices. It is high time for the government of Ghana to be held accountable for its failure to fulfill its obligations to the very students it pledged to support and nurture.”
