The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Stephen King Amoah, an immigration officer who was reported missing on July 4.
Amoah was found dead on July 9. His severely burnt body was discovered in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra, and was conveyed to the Ghana Police Hospital morgue for examination.
Despite the condition of the body, family members positively identified the deceased as Amoah.
According to police investigations, Amoah left his residence at Ashongman Estate around 8 p.m. on July 3 after receiving WhatsApp images of cash bundles from a man identified as Bright Aweh. Aweh had reportedly asked to meet him nearby to settle an outstanding debt.
A police statement said Amoah never returned home after the meeting, and his phone was switched off shortly afterward.
During interrogation, Aweh admitted to meeting Amoah and receiving GH₵50,000 from him. He claimed part of the money was used to pay off debts and said the rest was being held for later collection. However, he failed to clearly explain the origin of the funds and gave conflicting statements.
Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation. Anyone with knowledge of the incident is asked to contact the nearest police station or call emergency numbers 18555 or 192.
