NUGS launches its Innovation Challenge to showcase problem-solving abilities of students

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has recently launched the NUGS Innovation Challenge, a platform for students to showcase their problem-solving abilities.

The initiative, held in collaboration with Sankofa Global Education Expo 24 Preview Events and Pedagogy International, aims to encourage students to identify and address environmental issues in society.

The launch event took place  on 12th January, 2024, at the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs in Manhyia. Notable guests included an export administration specialist, Tirrel Mcknight, Director for Pedagogy International, Osei Bonsu Safo-Kantanka, and NUGS President, Daniel Oppong Kyeremeh.

The theme for the 2024 NUGS Innovation Challenge is ‘Fostering Progress: Unleashing Creativity in Education for Global Impact and Empowering Student Entrepreneurs to Thrive Globally through USA Import/Export Opportunities’. The competition aims to inspire positive change in society by encouraging students to develop innovative solutions to various problems.

In an interview with Univers News, Director of the NUGS Climate Action Committee, David Yeboah Exsqua, explained that the competition aims to transform ideas into impact and enhance the quality of living through the youth’s genius. The focus is on supporting skill development, entrepreneurship, and job creation, while also providing networking opportunities for participants regardless of their fields sof study.

“The competition is open to all university students, regardless of their field of study. It encompasses various categories such as entrepreneurship, agriculture, healthcare, medicine, waste management, and climate change. Any innovative idea that seeks to solve a problem is welcome to join the challenge.”

Yeboah Exsqua also mentioned that the competition offers opportunities for participants and the ultimate winner to partner with organizations that will provide support in materializing their ideas.

“Several foreign companies have come on board to support this initiative and connect participants to the wider market.”

The NUGS Innovation Challenge will provide a platform for students to contribute to societal development and showcase their problem-solving abilities. By fostering creativity and innovation, the competition hopes to create a positive impact on the Ghanaian society and beyond.
