The National Service Scheme (NSS) has announced the disbursement of allowances for eligible service personnel for January 2024, after a delay in payments.
In the statement dated 5th April, 2024, the secretariat emphasized that eligible personnel will receive their allowances via E-Zwich at their respective banks nationwide. The NSS expressed gratitude to service personnel for their patience during the delay in payments.
The NSS also assured all personnel that the allowances for February and March 2024 have been processed and are expected to be disbursed in the shortest possible time.
With the NSS being notorious for delay in allowances disbursements, the development was supposed to be a relief for many of the personnel, but not all service personnel were satisfied due to the delay; some personnel have even alleged not receiving their allowances for January 2024, in an interview with Univers News.
“Personally, I haven’t received money and I know that I’m speaking on behalf of others who have equally not received their allowance; we need our money to be paid to us because we are working and no one would like to ever work for free without getting paid.”
Other personnels spoke of their predicaments as workers with sub-standard living situations whilst productivity is required from them in their position.
“The delay was very, very bad because it has really affected me and how I live, coming to work every day, you are expected to come to work. You are expected to perform your responsibility as a National Service personnel. But then there’s no money to motivate you to come to work.”
Eligible personnel can expect to receive their allowances via E-Zwich at their respective banks nationwide.
