The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has renewed its pledge to rename the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) after its founder ahead of elections

This follows President Nana Akufo-Addo earlier promise to rename UPSA on April 25, 2018, citing the founder’s monumental contributions to education.

However, this pledge remains unfulfilled despite the NPP’s victory in the 2016 election.

Speaking during a tour in the Ashanti region, New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has announced plans to change the institution’s name to the “Opoku-Ampomah University of Professional Studies.”

“All these universities were built using public funds, but UPSA was personally built by Nana Opoku-Ampomah, so it is not just a pledge. If, by the requests, blessing, and teachings of the chiefs, we [NPP] can secure a win, we will surely rename UPSA to become the Opoku-Ampomah University of Professional Studies.”
