The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is appealing for calm among its supporters following the resignation of its former presidential hopeful, Alan John Kyeremanten.
In a statement, the NPP described the move as unfortunate.
The statement signed by General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua announced the party will on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, officially speak on the former Trade Minister’s decision.
“The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken notice of the unfortunate decision of Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, a long-standing member of the party to forfeit his membership, and contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections.
“The Party leadership is by this medium, urging the rank and file of our great party to remain calm and await an official address by the party to Mr Kyerematen’s resignation at 14:00pm on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at the Party headquarters.
“May God bless our homeland Ghana and make the New Patriotic Party great and strong.”
Alan Kyerematen announced his resignation from the NPP on Monday afternoon, [Sept 25, 2023] and said he was leaving the party due “unfair treatment towards him and his supporters by the party’s hierarchy.”
At a press conference in Accra on Monday, Mr Kyerematen indicated that he will contest the upcoming 2024 presidential election as an independent candidate.
