The National Labour Commission has issued a 14 days ultimatum to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to reinstate blocked allowances to staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
The development comes on the back of the FWSC blocking some allowances accruing to staff of the state broadcaster tagging they payments as undeserved.
However, the staff of GBC argued that per the economic situation prevailing in the country, allowances including rent, housing , utility , transportation were legal to be paid to staff of the company.
Subsequently, the staff dragged the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission before the Labour Commission to give a ruling on the impasse.
In a ruling dated June 7.2023 after meeting all stakeholders, the NLC described the move by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission as unlawful.
After the decision, workers of the state broadcaster were hopeful that the Ministry for Employment and Labour Relations would take steps to get the payments restored through the Controller and Accountant- General’s Department .
” We also pray that the Ministry would use its good office to impress upon the CAGD to take immediate steps to start restoring the allowances into the accounts of the deserving workers to ensure industrial peace and harmony”.
