The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the commencement of Ghana Card registration for children aged 6 to 14 years, starting October 7, 2024. This initiative aims to include all citizens in the national identification system.

Speaking during a Stakeholder Engagement in Accra on September 26, 2024, Deputy Director of Operations at the NIA, Alfred Gazari explained that the registration will be conducted in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) across 170 operational districts.

“These are the districts that we are going to operate from October 7 up till March for the first phase. The primary focus will be on registering children in schools and children’s homes. All the schools that we are going to do the registration, they have all been given centre numbers and those centre numbers have been gazetted.”

He added that the authority has arranged for Commissioners of Oaths and District Registration Officers to oversee the exercise. These officials will assist children who may not have the required primary documents, such as birth certificates.

“The judicial service has trained those people, they have licensed them, and they are working legally.”
