The National Democratic Congress (NDC), the opposition party, has called for an extension of the ongoing voter exhibition exercise, which is scheduled to conclude today. The Electoral Commission (EC) initiated the exercise on August 20, with the plan to end it on August 27.

Prior to the start of the exercise, the NDC had criticized the EC for delaying the release of the provisional voter register (PVR) to political parties, noting that the register was provided just a day before the exercise began.

“We are still monitoring the exhibition. Nonetheless, we would wish that they extend the exhibition a bit. Don’t forget, they give us the PVR very late.
In fact, less than 24 hours to the exhibition. So it actually give us a hell of time in terms of studying the whole PVR. We are still studying it.”

As the exercise reaches its final day, the NDC is urging the EC to extend the timeline to give citizens more time to verify their registration details. Dr. Rashid Tanko, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, emphasized the importance of this extension.

“So we think that they should extend it at least some few days to enable people to go and still check their names, because that is the most critical part of the whole register. Therefore, we are still on it. Our team is in the field and we are also closely monitoring what is going there.”
