Former Columnist of Kotoko Express, Kojo Addae Mensah has pointed to the death of one of the club’s most passionate supporters, Pooley, as a major factor behind their failure to win the Ghana Premier League last season.

Speaking on Sports Night with Pius Asack, Mensah reflected on the Porcupine Warriors’ campaign, stressing that the team was firmly in contention for the title until the tragedy occurred.

“I think we could have won the Ghana Premier League last season. We were on track until the Pooley issue happened. Pooley obviously derailed us. It was an unfortunate situation and it derailed us. Otherwise, we would have won the league,” he said.

Pooley, widely regarded as one of Kotoko’s most dedicated and recognisable fans, was a fixture at the club’s matches, travelling extensively to support the team both home and away.

His sudden passing sent shockwaves through the Kotoko community, leaving players, technical staff, and supporters in mourning.

Kotoko, who had started the campaign strongly and were among the frontrunners, saw their form dip after the incident, allowing Bibiani Gold Stars to overtake them and secure their first-ever Ghana Premier League title.
