Akumaa Mama Zimbi has revealed that her husband was outraged when rumors surfaced linking her to a sexual affair with her late gym instructor.
The veteran broadcaster and actress said her husband dismissed the reports as baseless the moment he heard them.
“My husband and the family heard of it. When my husband heard of it, he said: ‘what nonsense is this? What’s happening? What nonsense is this?’” she recounted in an interview on The Delay Show.
According to her, the strength of their 30-year marriage meant her husband never doubted her integrity.
“When you marry, you should know your partner so when people say all manner of things, because he/she knows you, they know what you can do and what you cannot do,” she explained.
Akumaa also addressed speculation that she had a feud with gospel musician Joyce Blessing over the same gym instructor, describing it as false. She explained that the trainer worked with her and other pastors during the COVID-19 period, and because she had retained him for long, people assumed there was more to their relationship.
“The bond between him and I made people think we were having an affair. But the truth is, I don’t change gym instructors because it doesn’t help the body. So because I maintained him, the speculations fueled. But I wasn’t even the only person he trained; we were many,” she clarified.
Angered by the allegations, Akumaa threatened to confront the blogger who spread the rumors.
“God forbid [that I’ll fight someone over a man]. I wished I met that blogger who spread falsehood about me dating the gym instructor. I’d have slapped that blogger. That nonsense has to stop,” she said.
Background to the rumors
In 2021, vlogger Obaa Tiwa alleged that both Akumaa Mama Zimbi and gospel singer Joyce Blessing were romantically involved with a gym instructor, identified as Little, who was later killed. The claims suggested a feud between the two women, though neither ever confirmed such a relationship.
Akumaa has now publicly denied the story, stressing she has no issues with Joyce Blessing and never had an affair with the trainer.
Meanwhile, Joyce Blessing herself has been open about her personal life after her divorce from Dave Joy nearly five years ago. The gospel singer has said she is considering remarrying, citing persistent advances from men.
