Gospel Artist, Minister Boakye

Gospel artist Minister Boakye, born Richard Boakye, has revealed that most of the producers he worked with at the early stages of his career ended up compromising his songs.

Speaking on “At The DJ’s Mercy” with Chairmolele_mic on Radio Univers on November 7, 2025, Minister Boakye shared that he faced numerous challenges with producers when he first discovered his musical potential in 2016.

“As a fresher in the industry, people directed me to certain producers who discouraged me from pursuing music by criticising my songs,” he recounted.

According to him, the criticism he faced did not break him but rather strengthened his resolve, as he believes success never comes easily.

“Everything begins humbly, coupled with challenges, but those experiences prepare and develop you.”

Minister Boakye further spoke about his breakthrough, noting that his progress began when he met his current producer, Smooth Beat, in 2022.

“DJ Amaro’s friend directed me to Smooth Beat, who is based in Accra Newtown, and that is where I recorded my first album.”

New Single Abasobo

Minister Boakye is currently promoting his new single titled Abasobo, a thanksgiving song that expresses gratitude to God for His divine protection and grace despite all the struggles and disappointments.

He mentioned that the inspiration for “Abasobo” came from it being the first song that came to mind when he planned to record a new piece.

“Abasobo was the only word that came to mind when I thought about recording a song. After several days of singing the chorus, the other words came together to form the full piece.”

Collaborations Between Gospel and Secular Artists

Addressing ongoing discussions about gospel artists collaborating with secular musicians, Minister Boakye stated that he would not condemn anyone for their choices, as everyone has the free will to pursue their path. However, he emphasised that Christians should ensure their actions align with biblical teachings.

“I can’t condemn anyone because God has given us the free will to take any initiative or do what we like. But as a Christian, you should always check whether your actions are in alignment with the gospel of Christ.”
