The Ministry of Health has called on the Medical Laboratory Professional Workers’ Union (MELPWU) to cancel its nationwide strike, which started on June 17, 2024.

The union initiated the strike due to the lack of a Conditions of Service agreement, despite nearly two years of negotiations with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.

In a statement on Monday, June 17, 2024, the Ministry reported that substantial progress has been made in the negotiations, with most of the proposed items agreed upon by the Government Negotiations Team. However, some remaining items, such as uniforms, Special Projects, unsociables, and Communication allowances, are still under discussion.

The Ministry acknowledged the challenges faced by the union and appealed to its leadership to be patient as the negotiations continue to be expedited.

The Ministry assured the union of its cooperation and respect for their dedication to their members’ welfare.
