Black Stars forward Joseph Painstil spurred Los Angeles (La) Galaxy to a 3-0 victory over Portland Timbers in the early hours of Sunday, at the Dignity Health Sports Park in the Major League Soccer (MLS).

Painstil, who was at the thick of proceedings in Galaxy’s 3-2 victory over Colorado Rapids last time out, set up Gabriel Pec for his 10th league goal after 38 minutes.

The sharpness and directness of the Ghanaian proved worrisome for Timbers, as he was on hand once more to slip in former Barcelona man Riqui Puig to make it 2-0 on 48 minutes.

The 26-year-old got on the scoresheet just before the hour mark, with a well-placed finish to grab his eighth league goal of the season.

Paintsil’s 3 goal involvements (1 goal, 2 assists) against Timbers took his goal contributions in the last two games to 5 (3 assists 2 goals), which accounts for 83.3% of the team’s total goal scoring output in that period.

Los Angeles Galaxy, meanwhile, still remain at the summit of the Western Conference, albeit second-place Los Angeles Fc having two games in hand.

Paintsil, who was on a mini-goal drought before scoring against Colorado Rapids, will hope his resurgence in front of goal — in the last three days — persists when they take on San Jose Earthquakes in the League Cup on August 1.
