Director at Pantang Hospital, Dr. Yennusom Maalug, has emphasized that mental health is not simply the absence of abnormal behavior, as many people assume.
Instead, it involves an individual’s capacity to function well and make sound decisions in everyday life.
Speaking on the Good Health Show on Radio Univers, on 16th October, 2025, Dr. Maalug discussed key contributing factors that influence mental health conditions.
According to him, mental well-being is shaped by a combination of biological, psychological, and social factors, all of which significantly impact an individual’s mental state.
“We can look at some contributing factors of mental health in terms of biological factors, psychological factors, and social factors,” he explained.
“The exact cause of mental illness is unknown, but we know there are certain key elements that can predispose a person to develop a mental disorder. These biological, psychological, and social factors are the most prominent causes.”
