The University of Ghana Sports Stadium was bathed in a magical blue ambiance at dusk, providing the perfect backdrop for Mensah Sarbah Hall’s resounding victory in the 60th Inter-Hall Athletics Meet, where they dominated the medal count with 38 impressive wins out of 90 medals awarded.
Sarbah Hall’s impressive medal count includes 19 gold medals, showcasing their dominance in track and field events, 11 silver medals, demonstrating their resilience and near-misses, and 8 bronze medals, highlighting their overall strength and depth.
The highly anticipated three-day athletics meet, held from Wednesday, December 11th to 13th, 2024, provided a platform for students to proudly represent their halls, showcase their talents, and make a lasting impact on the audience.
One of the highlights of the competition was Level 200 student Elizabeth Agyei’s record-shattering performance in the 800 meters event on Friday, 13th December 2024, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Agyei’s stunning display of speed and endurance left the crowd in awe and cemented her status as a rising star in Ghanaian athletics.
Also, Mensah Sarbah Hall won both the Men’s and Women’s 4 X 100m relay events in the 2024 Inter-hall Athletics at the University Sports Stadium.
Their fierce rivals, Volta Hall, who mustered level 200 athletes for the meet, settled for a second placed finish with a total of 15 medals.
Akuafo Hall came third with a total of 13 medals, adding extra intrigue to a spicy two-horse race, leaving Legon Hall (the premier hall) to take fourth position with 11 medals.
Hilla Limann Hall – keeping distant tabs to Legon Hall as their geographical proximity is – finished with 6 medals in fifth place. City Campus achieved a notable feat, claiming a trio of medals – one gold, one silver, and one bronze( sixth position).
With a total of three medals, Elizabeth Frances Sey Hall showcased their determination and perseverance.
Jubilee and Ish (JISH) walked to their matrimonial home with a single medal being bronze , despite their dedication showcased in their peculiar marriage – ‘JISH’.
However, Mensah Sarbah Hall’s remarkable performance has therefore cemented their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the University of Ghana’s athletic circles.
“I think Mensah Sarbah Hall are putting in much efforts in recruiting athletes and giving them accommodation and for that matter they will keep on winning” – 4×100 Inter Hall champion Mordecai Owusu revealed in an exclusive conversation with Universports.
The Hall, established in 1963 has produced some of the best sports personalities including Benjamin Azamati (an Olympian based in US), Prince Quartey, Isaac Bawa, Aminu Adisa Abibu among others.
