‘Medeama were prepared for the CAF Champions league tie’ – Tony Aubyn (Board Chairman)

Board Chairman of Medeama Sporting Club (SC), Dr. Tony Aubyn, has admitted that Medeama SC players were well prepared for the clash with Nigeria’s Remo Stars at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions Leagues following their victory over their opponents.

Medeama SC prevailed on penalty shootout over Remo Stars in Nigeria on 27th August, 2023, following a 1-0 victory in Ghana and a subsequent 1-0 defeat in Nigeria.

In a media engagement after the match, Dr. Tony Aubyn said the Medeama players were involved in series of games which enabled the Mauves and Yellows to prepare adequately for the encounter.

“[They] had to prepare for the league…in preparing for the international games, [they] had to look at their matches, hold a video analysis of what their opposing team is bringing and all that. So, Medeama had time to prepare from playing some international,” Dr. Aubyn disclosed.

Medeama’s victory has propelled the team to the next round of the CAF champions league, where they will take on Guinean giants FC Horoya for a place in the group stage.

Medeama SC played their home encounter against Remo stars at the Cape Coast stadium due to their 10,000 seater stadium being under construction. Dr. Aubyn gave an update on the state of work on Medeama’s new home ground, the Tarkwa TNA Park.

He also explained why there had a been  a delay in the completion of the stadium, citing safety as a major concern at the construction site.

“I am told that by our next game, we can play there. The pitch is not being built by Medeama, it is being built by a company; while the company understands that we need the pitch as soon as possible, we have to work according to their time lines. When a mishap occurred at work, they needed to take a break, as the company takes safety very seriously,” he added.

In the meantime, Medeama SSC will begin their title defence of the Betpawa Premier League at home as they face the Accra Lions on September 15, 2023.
