President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Chief of Staff to work with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to distribute food from the Tema warehouse to Senior High Schools (SHSs) facing feeding challenges.
This move aims to resolve food shortages in some SHSs across the country.
Mahama assured the public that sufficient food supplies are available at the Tema warehouses, which were initially brought in by the previous government to address last year’s drought.
These supplies will now be utilized to feed students and ensure a smooth educational experience.
Interestingly, this development comes after Mahama’s previous proposal to cancel the supply of food items to SHSs by the National Food Buffer Stock company, citing concerns over the distribution of expired rice to schools. Instead, he suggested decentralizing the feeding grant, allowing schools to purchase food items from local markets. However, the current directive focuses on addressing immediate food shortages using available supplies.
