President John Dramani Mahama has commended the management of Ghana’s currency, stating that the Cedi has regained respect both locally and internationally.

Speaking at the Bank of Ghana’s Cedi@60 commemoration event in Accra, held under the theme “Sovereignty, Stability, and Economic Resilience,” President Mahama praised the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and the Ministry of Finance for their significant role in stabilizing the national currency.

He specifically highlighted renewed confidence in the Cedi.

“I just want to say that the Governor and your entire team at the BoG, as well as the Ministry of Finance, Ghanaians are grateful to you for the management of our currency,” he stated.

The President urged officials to sustain their technical efforts, asking them to “keep doing whatever you are doing to ensure we don’t have excess liquidity open market operations, all those technical jargons you people use.”

He concluded by stressing the importance of continued stability “Whatever you are doing, continue doing so, so that the Cedi is respected.”

The Cedi@60 celebration marks six decades since Ghana introduced its national currency in 1965 to replace the Ghanaian Pound, a milestone reflecting the nation’s pursuit of economic sovereignty.
