In a bid to alleviate transportation challenges faced by students in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the sitting MP and Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources  officially launched a free shuttle service on Monday, November 18, 2024.

The initiative, which began operating a week prior to its formal launch, aims to provide convenient and affordable transportation for students commuting to and from their campuses.

Speaking to Univers News, some beneficiaries lauded the intervention, describing it as a timely solution to their commuting struggles. “The free shuttle service has made things easier for me,i no longer have to worry about spending 6 cedis in amd out on transportation, and it is very convenient.”

However, the service has not been without challenges. While some praised the initiative, others expressed concerns over overcrowding on the shuttles.

A student remarked, “The idea is great, but the buses are always overcrowded. Sometimes I have to wait for long periods because of the high demand. I usually have to leave at least an hour earlier to make it to class on time”.

The shuttle service, funded and managed by her campaign, currently operates on major routes within the constituency, such as legon campus, alleviating students of the cost of the shuttle fare.

Despite the complaints, many students expressed hope that measures would be taken to address the overcrowding issue as the service continues to gain traction.
