Professor of Leadership and Organisational Development at the University of Ghana Business School, Prof. Samuel Kwasi Dartey-Baah, has encouraged leaders to blend tradition with transformation by embracing emotional intelligence, adaptability, and authenticity.
Delivering his inaugural lecture at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana, Prof. Dartey-Baah presented insights from his extensive research on leadership under the theme “Dancing in the Boardroom: Leading with Groove, Balancing Tradition and Transformation in Ghana’s Leadership Landscape.”
He explained that the metaphor of “dancing in the boardroom” captures the essence of strategic leadership that is flexible, creative, and agile.
“The theme vividly captures the essence of strategic leadership rooted in adaptability, creativity, and graceful agility,” he said.
“Dancing in the Boardroom masterfully weaves metaphor with real-world wisdom, showcasing a leadership style that moves like dance itself—fluid, responsive, and attuned to every shift in rhythm.”
Prof. Dartey-Baah also emphasised that effective leadership in Ghana must be grounded in emotional intelligence, passion, and cultural awareness.
“Leading with groove reflects a leadership approach that is both deep and dynamic one that blends empathy, care, and authenticity, Just as organizers and members align with the rhythm of music, a leader’s actions must harmonize with the cultural dynamics of the organization. When leaders resonate with these cultural nuances, they foster environments of collaboration, respect, and co-creation.”
The lecture challenged current and future leaders to rethink traditional leadership models and explore new paradigms that honour Ghana’s cultural heritage while fostering innovation and progress.
