Kimi Antonelli produced one of the most remarkable comebacks of the ongoing Formula 1 season, recovering from 19th on the grid to win the Italian Grand Prix at Monza,Italy on Sunday 6th September,2026.
The Mercedes driver moved rapidly through the field after the race restart, climbing into the top five within just a few laps before entering the fight for victory.
Antonelli eventually held off Mercedes teammate George Russell to claim a memorable one-two finish for the Silver Arrows.
Reflecting on the race, Antonelli said he woke up feeling confident and initially considered a podium finish a very good result.
“After a couple laps I was already in the top five and I knew I could have a shot at the win,” Antonelli said.
The victory further strengthens his position at the top of the drivers’ championship, with the Italian insisting he is taking the title battle race by race.
“I take it race by race because you never know what can happen,” he added.
Antonelli will now turn his attention to Madrid, where Formula 1 heads next weekend for the inaugural Grand Prix at the new Madring circuit.
