Abu Kassim, Head Coach of the 2024/25 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League Southern Zone champions, Police Ladies Football Club, has acknowledged that his team faced strong competition—particularly from Jonina Ladies—on their journey to securing the title.

After 18 matches in the just-ended Women’s Premier League season, Ghana Police Ladies Football Club emerged as champions of the Southern Zone, edging out fierce rivals and defending champions Hasaacas Ladies. Police Ladies wrapped up the season with an impressive 39 points and are now set to face Northern Zone winners, Ampem Darkoa FC, in the championship playoff.

Speaking on the Univers Sports Show, Coach Abu Kassim admitted that Jonina Ladies posed the greatest challenge to his side throughout the season.

“Jonina Ladies were our toughest opponents. They approached every match with great passion, determination, and intensity. Their aggressive style of play made it feel as though they had a personal score to settle, which made them a very difficult team to face.”

Interestingly, the two meetings between Police Ladies and Jonina Ladies this season saw each side claim a win. In the first round, Police Ladies suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Jonina Ladies. However, they bounced back in the reverse fixture with a hard-fought 2-1 victory away from home.

Coach Abu Kassim concluded by noting that, in addition to Jonina Ladies, sides like Epiphany Warriors and Army Ladies also proved to be formidable opponents throughout the season.
