Animated movie, Jabari has emerged as winner for the best animation category at the 19th edition of the African Movie academy awards (AMAA).
Ghanaian creative Director, animator, and filmmaker, Francis Y. Brown, who worked on the animation movie, expressed his appreciation after bagging the Best Animation Award with AnimaxFYB Animation Studio at the just-ended Awards ceremony.
This year’s ceremony was held at the Balmoral Convention Center in Lagos, Nigeria on the 29th of October 2023.
Francis Y. Brown was the only Ghanaian among other Africans competing for the Jubril Malaifia Award for Best Animation.
Other African representatives were, Lost from Uganda, Azania Rises, from South Africa, Bashorun Gaa, from Nigeria and Jabari from Ghana, which eventually won the award.
In a Facebook post, Francis Y. Brown, shared his acceptance speech saying;
“I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the extraordinary AMAA team for their unwavering commitment to recognizing and celebrating excellence in African cinema. Your dedication in creating this world-class awards scheme that honours Africa’s finest in film is truly commendable.”
“Tonight, this victory is not mine alone, nor does it belong solely to my dedicated team at Animaxfyb in Ghana. Instead, it is a triumph for an entire nation, my beloved motherland, Ghana. ‘Jabari’ stands as the sole Ghanaian film chosen for this year’s awards, and this achievement is nothing short of remarkable. To be not only selected but to take home the award from such a prestigious event is an honour beyond words.”
Many Ghanaians have shared their excitement over Francis Brown’s achievement as the sole Ghanaian recipient of an award at the 2023 African Movie Academy Award.
They expressed pride in his achievement as they congratulated him on setting a milestone in Ghana’s animation space.
90-minute 3D animation is a fictional adventure drama that follows the story of Jabari, an orphan boy, who was raised by Hem-Netjer in the ways of wisdom, knowledge, and sorcery, and trained to become a fierce warrior.
After uncovering the mystery of his birth and the demise of his parents, Jabari sets out to discover the truth of his destiny, facing mystical giants summoned from hell. To succeed, he must show tact, practicality, and self-awareness of his strengths and limitations.
The upcoming epic takes the audience back to Ancient Egypt, where kings, demigods, and giants loomed on the surface of the red sands of Kemet. (Excerpts source: afrocritik.com).
