The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has warned that it will be forced to reactivate its industrial strike action due to the government’s failure to address its grievances, emphasising that the government has completely neglected CETAG members.
CETAG suspended its strike, which lasted more than two months, in August 2024 following an assurance from the government to address their issues.
However, the leadership of CETAG has expressed disappointment at the government’s unfulfilled promises. In a media engagement, the President of CETAG, Prince Obeng–Himah, stated:
“He [Dr. Bawumia] assured us that he would use his good office to ensure that the migration, which was the key outstanding issue, was completed. He assured us that he would ensure that the all-year-round compensation, for which I have been unpaid for almost two years, would be addressed by August. Yet we still find ourselves in the same situation.”
He also added that the leadership would be compelled to take action if nothing is done about their circumstances.
“It is clear that our issues cannot be prioritised by them. As union members, we have leaders and that responsibility, especially during this time when the economy is impacting everyone. We want to thank them and let them know that now that they have proven they cannot prioritize our welfare, we are going to take significant steps.”
