I have had the privilege of knowing my dear colleague, Dr. Abubakari Sidick Ahmed (Alhaji), for over a decade, dating back to my early years at the University of Ghana. Our paths first crossed in 2015 at the Hajj Village, where we both served as resource persons, a meeting that blossomed into a cherished professional and personal bond.
Not long after, he graciously welcomed me onto his beloved Radio Univers to discuss national issues, and what began as a single invitation soon evolved into a meaningful and regular collaboration.
Alhaji was a man of conviction, deeply committed to quality journalism and the advancement of political communication. He held an unwavering belief in expertise, always insisting that public discourse be shaped by knowledge, integrity, and purpose.
One of my most enduring memories is the celebration of Radio Univers @ 30 in April 2024, a truly glamorous occasion that brought together some of the nation’s finest journalists, many of whom were nurtured under his remarkable guidance. Witnessing their admiration and heartfelt tributes to his leadership was both moving and affirming. Yet, in the midst of such well-deserved praise, he remained ever humble, gracious, and grounded.
I will forever cherish the warmth, laughter, and intellectual camaraderie we shared. Alhaji was not only a colleague, but also a good friend whose presence enriched my journey in countless ways.
May Allah guide your eternal path and hold you in His gentle embrace. You will be deeply missed, my dear friend.
