Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akufo Dampare, on Sunday, November 24, 2024, called on Christians to actively promote peace in the lead-up to Ghana’s December 7 general elections.
During a visit to the Church of Pentecost in Accra New Town, Dr. Dampare, accompanied by the Police Management Board, urged the congregation not only to pray for peace but also to complement their prayers with actions that foster security, law, and order.
Speaking to the congregation, the IGP highlighted the role of collective efforts and divine grace in ensuring the peaceful electoral environment witnessed so far. “God is using you as a vessel so you don’t become an agent of insecurity in the country,” he said.
While acknowledging the overall peaceful environment, he warned against individuals who might seek to disrupt the nation’s peace, stating, “There may however be a few others who may try to disturb the peace of the country, and those people, wherever they could be found, if caught, would be given the place that has been designated for them.”
The IGP assured the congregation that proactive measures have been implemented to curb potential disturbances. “As we speak, we have put in place some proactive steps to curb such situations before it gets out of hand,” he said.
Dr. Dampare emphasized the importance of collaboration among citizens to ensure Ghana achieves its most peaceful elections in history, encouraging all to remain committed to the cause of national unity and security.
This appeal by the IGP aligns with the ongoing efforts by various stakeholders to uphold peace and stability as the country prepares for its democratic exercise.
