Frederick Mattey, the man behind the iconic Headless YouTuber persona, has finally shared the reason behind his decision to reveal his identity after years of keeping it a secret.
In an exclusive interview with Richie Mensah on the Masterminds Podcast, Mattey opened up about his decision to show his face after years of remaining anonymous. According to him, the choice was driven by his desire to expand his reach and grow his channel, which had reached a plateau.
“Before I revealed my identity, things weren’t going as well as I’d hoped on the channel. I reached a point where I felt I’d done everything I could as an anonymous figure. I wasn’t able to do interviews, collaborate effectively, or even hire the right team. To take the next step, I had to reveal myself,” Mattey shared.
He also offered advice to up-and-coming content creators, encouraging them to follow their passions but keep their audience in mind.
“Create content you’re passionate about, but remember—it’s not just for you. Make sure it’s something that others will connect with, too. You’re not making videos just for yourself; you’re creating for an audience.”
His decision shows that while staying in the shadows may be advantageous, choosing to fully embrace the spotlight could be the best thing for an individual.
