Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association Fred Pappoe says he has high expectations for newly appointed black stars Head coach Chris Hughton.
According to him, the experience Chris Hughton has garnered at the club level having coached top clubs like Tottenham hotspur, New Castle United and Norwich City makes him a good fit for the Job.
In an exclusive interview with Univers Sports, Fred Pappoe said Hughton’s stint with the black stars as the technical advisor would contribute a lot to the success of his job.
“I think I have high expectations for him because he has garnered quite an experience at the club level but to me what is of interest to me is the stint with the black stars for atleast the past one year or so he is been a big part of the technical set up going into the world cup going into the world cup the last faces of the qualifiers then the world cup proper Crucial experiences he has gained which I believe will contribute a lot to the job”, Pappoe told Univers Sports.
Fred Pappoe also commended the Ghana football association for maintaining the technical team as Mas-Ud Didi Dramani and George Boateng retained their positions as assistant coaches to assist Chris Hughton.
He believes that the retention of the two Ghanaian assistant coaches ensures the continuity of the technical team and fosters familiarity in the black stars.
“I think is a call in the right direction, generally we have always had the problems of Ghanaians being inconsistent with our thinking and our expectations. after all we are happy when they are achieving goals we saw Senegal under Aliou Cisse who has been there for sometime he has gone through both good and rough times and he has done quite a lot. So I believe on the ground of consistency and continuity I am quite pleased with our arrangement of maintaining George and Didi I think on the grounds of continuity and experience the knowledge they have gotten with the players the chemistry that they have established I think I can only be hopeful”, Fred Pappoe revealed to Univers Sports.
The former GFA vice president called on former head coach Otto Addo to clarify the assertion that he resigned because according to him Otto left the job in fulfilment of the contract he signed with the GFA.
“Otto Addo should be able to clarify I don’t think Otto resigned he did not resign he was very clear at the point of his engagement that he was going to be around for six months and after the world cup he would revert to his former club Borussia Dortmund so technically it was not a resignation as it is been brandished around”, Fred Pappoe said.
Chris Hughton’s appointment as head coach of the black stars seem not to come as a surprise to most Ghanaians as many had predicted the former technical advisor would be given the nod to take charge of the team from Otto Addo.
