The President of the Republic , H.E John Dramani Mahama has outlined critical steps under the “Operation Recover All Loot” policy aimed at fighting corruption in the National Service Scheme (NSS) which has led to huge amounts of money being lost by the state through a bloated list of beneficiaries paid undeserved allowances between 2017 and 2024.
Speaking at the 2025 State of the Nation Address to Parliament , today , February 28,2025 , H.E John Mahama reiterated his resolve to root out all forms of corruption and graft that has robbed the country of scarce resources needed to wholistically develop the nation to its fullest potential .
“Mr. Speaker, as part of our Operation Recover All Loot policy, I have instructed our investigative bodies to identify and bring to justice those responsible for the ghost names scandal. This kind of blatant theft of public funds must be stopped and those involved must face the law,” he stated.
The President further revealed that the fraudulent addition of more than 80,000 ghost names to the NSS database had cost the country over GHS 50 million per month.
“It is estimated that the criminal addition at some point of more than eighty thousand (80,000) ghost names could have yielded the suspects over GHS 50 million a month.”
He also noted that some of the suspects have fled the country. However, the President assured the public that authorities would declare them wanted, trace their assets, and freeze them until investigations are concluded.
“Unfortunately, some suspects are believed to have fled the country. I have directed that they be declared wanted, with their assets traced and frozen until the investigation is complete,” he added.
