Ghanaian media personality and lawyer Joseph Ackah Blay has opened up on his journey of balancing media with studying law, describing it as a challenging yet rewarding experience.
Speaking on the Campus Exclusive show on Radio Univers on 16th October, 2025, Ackah-Blay explained that although many lawyers in Ghana venture into politics, his decision to study law was driven by his personal interest.
” I don’t particularly like politics. I don’t like politics at all. When I’m talking about it or I’m working around it, it’s fine, I enjoy doing it. But once I’m done, I’m done. One thing that makes me very uncomfortable, especially when I was even in class, was when people wanted to talk to me about the things they heard or saw me discuss on TV. It makes me very uncomfortable. I don’t enjoy talking about politics outside work.”
He, however, stated that he remains open to whatever opportunities the future may bring, including politics.
”But the thing is, never say never. You don’t know what the opportunity may be in future that could change your mind. I didn’t decide to become a lawyer because I wanted to enter politics. Not at all. But, I’m not going to shut the door to the possibility of engaging in politics in future because I don’t know what the future holds” he said.
Ackah Blay further urged aspiring student lawyers to stop worrying and start taking action, stressing the importance of determination and taking the first step toward their career goals.
”I think they should, they should just be determined about it. They should start. A lot of the time, we think about the ‘how’ so much when you just have to start.
”You can’t be on a bicycle with both legs not on the floor and you are in the same place. You’re going to fall unless you’re an acrobat or a gymnast. When the bicycle is moving, it’s easier to stay stable. So just move, just start. That’s what matters,” he added.
