Accra Hearts of Oak were left frustrated on the opening day of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League as they were held to a goalless draw by debutants Hohoe United at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Phobians dominated possession throughout the encounter but lacked the cutting edge to turn their superiority into goals.
Midfielder Abdul Karim dictated the tempo for long spells, while winger Martin Karikari caused problems with his pace and direct runs, yet clear chances remained scarce.
Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was reliable whenever Hohoe threatened, ensuring Hearts kept a clean sheet.
Hohoe United, making their maiden appearance in the top flight, showed resilience and composure, especially after going down to ten men following Solomon Adomako’s second-half red card.
Captain Safian Osman marshalled the defence superbly, keeping Hearts at bay, while forward Kwadwo Boamah worked tirelessly on the counter, stretching the home backline and offering an outlet under pressure.
The introduction of youngster George Paaku in the 65th minute did little to change the game, as Hearts increasingly bypassed midfield with long balls into the box, leaving him isolated and unable to make an impact.
For Hearts of Oak, the draw felt like two points dropped in front of their home crowd, while for Hohoe United it was a statement performance, a gritty debut that underlined their determination to compete at the top level.
